More injury updates...

Wow, I can't even lift my arm up today without a lot of pain... guess I shouldn't have tried to play Racquetball last night!

It was a pretty frustrating day at work yesterday, so I wanted to get to the gym after watching my daughters Chorus concert. I was going to do a Crossfit workout, but most of the usual Monday night Racquetball crew was there so I decided to jump into a game. I ended up playing for a few hours and got to run around a lot which was good. The other good news is that even though I forgot my ankle brace I didn't really notice any issues with my left ankle. The sprain is almost entirely healed. It's still sore, but improving a bit everyday. It's still noticeable when pushing off, my power is reduced a bit when cutting or jumping off my left foot, but I can make do.

I'm rather anxious to get back on my bike, it's been a while, so it's good that my ankle has healed enough. It's probably better for my elbow to use the bike to get my exercise as well. The other good news is that I've gotten into the Lake for a Swim twice already have been at least running with the Track club so I'm not a total slug!

Musings

Lots of thoughts...

Tough to get injured, especially since I don't seem to heal as fast as I used to. My volleyball season has potentially two more nights, tonight is round one of the playoffs and if we make it then the finals are next Monday. I clearly can't play tonight, but if we win I suppose next week would be a possibility. I've been mulling around heading down tonight to watch, and perhaps get some sort of a workout in...

Along those lines, I'm hopeful that I can back to at least some form of Crossfit workouts this week. If I get to the gym tonight I'll try some of the movements and work, but most of the Workouts have at least some portion of lower body involved. I'm not real stable with a weak ankle at the moment and don't want to have a setback, so I'm a bit mixed about trying too much.

Finally, it was nice to get track season started again. For the last few years I've been an assistant coach with our town's youth track program. Mike, the head coach, has made some interesting changes this year and I'm excited to see how it plays out. We had our first practice on Saturday and have about 70 kids signed up at this point. I suspect we'll get a few more, we've peaked out at 115 in the past. I couldn't do much with the group, but helped a little with some core exercises as a warmup and then stretching at the end. My two oldest daughters are participating, and I may get my youngest to come out occasionally.

Injury Update

Since I know you care....

My ankle is feeling better, but looking worse. I've been walking close to normal on it now.
I'm not sure this picture shows the rich tones and delicate, subtle color overtones... but it's the best I can do!

Volleyball update

Another crummy result... it was strange, at one point it felt like we were playing some of our best volleys of the year and I looked up and we were down by 8 points! Just a really strange year.

We did get to play some pickup afterwards, and I tried to work on bumping specifically. I wasn't moving well at all, my knee was bothering me and I landed on my hip during our game. I ended up leaving early, and had a lot of trouble sleeping even after downing 4 Ibuprofen and icing my knee. Then, strangely I woke up this morning with almost no issues... just really strange.

Today is off, then hopefully an early morning run with my daughter tomorrow.

Crazy week + Injury = No posting

And no racing for that matter...

My uncle, brother and assorted others did very well at winding trails this week, check out the results at http://www.plattsys.com/results/res2008/wt0806.htm

Going to see the Doctor tomorrow, I'm not sure I'll have an answer, but hopefully at least some more information.

In the last couple of weeks, I've referred at least 3 people who I wouldn't have suspected to Tolland Bike shop, is it becoming a trend???

Race Day

I'm sure the suspense is killing you... I'm still not sure what the plan is tonight. I brought the bike, but my knee is still painful enough that I really shouldn't run. I'm thinking of swimming and then biking and pulling out right after that. We'll see how the leg feels...

Have knee... can't travel

Yeah, my knee is still killing me. I'm going to stop at the store on the way home from work and pick up a knee brace, so I'm hoping that will help. I've managed to stay on the bike all weekend though, which is good since it keeps me sane and doesn't seem to hurt (or help) my knee.

I'm second guessing my chances to race tomorrow night already, but I suspect I probably will go ahead.

Ouch redux

I'm still hurting quite a bit from my Monday night volleyball games. I didn't post the results yet, but they were very good, 3-0 in the games and I played really well.

Unfortunately, the next morning my foot was very sore and I've been having a lot of pain walking ever since. I remember a bit of a twinge during the game, but it didn't hurt badly at all until I woke up the next morning. It's a bit better today, I'm hoping it will continue to improve in the next few days and ultimately go away...

MRI

I got an MRI on my left shoulder this morning... it still hasn't gotten better after I hurt it playing volleyball. It was an interesting experience, I've never had one before. Basically you spend a 1/2 hour in a small tube where you are blasted by weird noises. Not a whole lot of fun, but not too bad either.

I also heard from my swim coach who is going to be starting up the Master's swim program again in the fall... but I'm not sure how much swimming I'm going to be doing until my shoulder gets better.

I also have started to plan the backpacking trip on the Long Trail with my uncle. We're planning to start on the southern most part of the trail and do a few days every once in a while with the hope of eventually doing the whole thing. Its 270 miles, so it'll take a few years, but it's doable. I did order a new sleeping bag, since using my daughter's is not going to cut it anymore :)

Summer doldrums

Still a bit of a blah feeling going on... I've been slacking a lot on the training since I hurt my shoulder and I haven't really felt motivated. I need to start a regular running schedule again to stay in shape, but I haven't been able to get out the door.

Interesting news was that my swim coach sent an email and they're planning to start the T/Th morning swims in Suffield next month again. Hopefully I'll be able to participate, I have an MRI scheduled for my shoulder next week... it's still not getting better.

Ouch...

Interesting that after my post discussing how much fun playing volleyball and football with my family as a kid was that I get a chance to play again on Sunday and end up getting hurt.

I fell hard on my left shoulder while trying to do the limbo to avoid getting clotheslined by the rope holding the net up. It hurt pretty bad when I landed, and it's still pretty sore two days later. The good news is that it's starting to feel a bit better. The X-Rays were negative and the only concern now is that it could be a rotator cuff injury. The Doc says to wait and see if it gets better in a few days otherwise I'll get an MRI to look for damage.

Not sure I'm going to get to go hiking up Mt. Washington now...
